The complete guide to Table View, Cape Town
You have booked your trip to Cape Town, your booking at Aviva Accommodation has been secured, and you are almost ready to leave. But where is Table View? What should I expect in Table View? Is it a safe area to stay in? What is there to do? There are many questions that you can and should ask before you embark on your trip, so we have given you the low down on all things Table View below. To start with, Table View is a suburb of Cape Town located on the West Coast shores. For locals, Table View and Blouberg go hand in hand.
Table View has many fun activities and hot spots for tourists to visit. Getting around in Table View is very easy. The MyCiti Bus runs throughout the suburb and extends into Town and along various routes through Cape Town, giving visitors and locals easy access to Cape Town at an affordable rate. All you need is your MyCiti bus card, load some money credit onto it, and then swipe it to gain access to the bus service at a designated platform or stop. If you would prefer to rent a car, there are many rental agencies in Cape Town that are a phone call away, or if you want to take a taxi, we recommend the local Grab-a-cab, or Uber using the Uber App.
So where to now? Number one on our list is the Table View beachfront, a popular part of the suburb with ample parking, restaurants and ice cream spots perfect for a summer day. Why not try a delicious ice cream from Dulce or an old school vanilla strawberry twirl soft serve from Sea Breeze Ice Cream corner? To die for pancakes are a stones throw away at Phyl and Frank's Pancakes. Kite Surfing is very popular on Dolphin Beach during summer months. Most days you will witness a canopy cover of brightly coloured kite surfs across the beach sky. The beachfront walkway extends from Table View until Blouberg, and the beaches continue onto one another freely. You can take a relaxing walk along their paths to explore as far as your heart desires. While enjoying your summer day on the beach, don’t forget to take a breath-taking photograph of the iconic Table Mountain. Table View is famous for it’s incredible panoramic view of one of the new Seventh Wonders of the World, Table Mountain, hence the name “Table View”. We recommend that you enjoy a sundowner cocktail and pizza at Doodles Restaurant or at the Blue Peter Hotel after your day at the beach. If the night scene is what you live for, stop at News Cafe for a late night cocktail or head over to Boardhouse for a drink amongst the kite surfers.
Table View is also home to the Rietvlei Reserve, a wetland area home to a large variety of birds. If you are an avid bird watcher, then you would love a day out at the Rietvlei Lagoon. Pelicans and Flamingos are frequently seen frolicking in the water daily along with many other resident birds. If you are more into water sports however, then why not water-ski or canoe along the open waters of the lagoon. Just off the lagoon you will see the home of SANCCOB – Cape Town’s seabird conservation NPO. SANCCOB does incredible work in Cape Town and treats on average 1500 Penguins per year, and an additional 1000 other seabirds. Table View is proud to be the home of this amazing rehabilitation NPO and encourages locals and visitors to donate to their cause, “adopt” a penguin, or embark on a volunteering project. For more information on how to donate to SANCCOB please contact us.
On the other hand, if shopping is what you live for, then fear not, Table View is home to two beautiful malls – Bayside Mall and the newly built Table Bay Mall. Bayside Mall is located centrally in Table View, with the Table Bay Mall being located a few kilometres up the R27. Both malls have a large variety of clothing, retail and food stores, and a wide selection of restaurants. If you want to watch a movie, Bayside Mall is your mall of choice with 8 movies showing with a late show that begins at around 10/11pm for late night movie goer enthusiasts. Local entrepreneurs selling local arts and crafts are also found daily along the Table View beachfront for African inspired souvenirs if you would like a truly African keepsake. For all the sweet tooth lovers, be sure to stop at Crazy Daizy for delicious sweet treats to take home with you or stop at Melissa’s for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.
There are many other fun things to do in Table View, we have mentioned but a few to get you started. Table View is a safe neighbourhood with a friendly community. As with everywhere in the world, you should take the necessary safety precautions, and be alert at all times while enjoying your stay but rest assured that Table View is a community filled with active policing and patrols. Relish in all that Table View has to offer and make the most of the incredible sandy white beaches that we pride ourselves on. Be sure to take some stunning photographs to always be able to take a look back on your memories made in Table View and at Aviva Accommodation.
