What to do in Cape Town in March?

Cape Town always has something exciting going on, and the month of March is no different. We are well into 2018, and Cape Town has not disappointed us thus far. If you were planning on visiting Cape Town in March, why not take a look at some of the fun events and things to do during your stay. 

First up is the famous Cape Town Cycle Tour. The 40th Cape Town Cycle Tour takes place on 11 March this year with the start of the race set to begin at the Grand Parade Precinct, located just outside the Cape Town Castle. With over 35 000 entries, this popular event is guaranteed to be a highlight of your stay in Cape Town during March. 

The annual Navy Festival takes place from the 17th till the 19th of March in Simon’s Town from 10am till 6pm daily. Entrance is free so this is one not to be missed. You will be given on board access to Navy Ships and submarines while enjoying the various stalls and local restaurants in Simon’s Town. 

The Cape Town Carnival will light up Cape Town CBD on the 18th of March with breathtaking costumes and floats that are one of a kind. This year’s theme is truly fitting to Cape Town - “Mother City, Mother Nature”. Head on down to the Fan Walk in Green Point to catch the show. Attendance is free for the standing area, with other tickets ranging in price. The event kicks off at 6.45pm with the ribbon cutting but we suggest that you arrive a bit earlier to get a good view point. There are various family oriented activities during the afternoon for more family oriented guests. The parade officially ends at 10pm, with an after party in the Cape Town Carnival Village until midnight. 

If you love an outdoor cinema experience, catch the classic “Love Actually” at Bloemendal Wine Estate by The Galileo Open Air Cinema. The movie is set t start at 6pm. The Rudimentals (South Africa) take the V&A Summer Sessions stage on 27 March at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre. Entrance is free and the event starts at 7pm sharp. 

The annual Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is taking place on 31 March. Competitors choose between taking part in the main marathon, a grooling 56km run, or the 21km half marathon. You are able to find your favourite spot along the race route to cheer on the contestants and enjoy the local restaurants that are celebrating the race. The race begins in Newlands and stretches all the way to Noordehoek with Champan's Pek being a highlight of the race. 

The 19th annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival closes off the month of March in Cape Town with the event running from the 31st of March until 1 April. Enjoy two days of the largest music event to take place in sub-Saharan Africa with 5 stages and more than 40 artists performing.
